Chewing is the solo moniker for Los Angeles musician and visual artist, Nik Ewing, who is best known for his work in his critically acclaimed band Local Natives. ‘Songs For Linnéa’ is the second album by Chewing, a collection of minimal piano songs written for his first child.

“When my first child was born, I played piano for her almost daily. This album is for her, to have a physical document of the music from the beginning of her life.”

Local Natives have consistently captivated across six widely celebrated LPs, which Nik is the de facto visual creative director of, including ‘Sunlit Youth’ [2016] which boasts their gold status single “Dark Days” and collaborations with Moses Sumney and Nina Persson of The Cardigans. ‘Violet Street’ [2019] includes their infectious single “When Am I Gonna Lose You?” which cracked the Top 10 on Billboard’s Triple A Songs and Alternative Airplay charts. They’ve quietly generated nearly a billion streams, earned gold certifications, sold out legendary venues such as The Greek Theatre and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and performed multiple memorable sets at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Austin City Limits, Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, Late Night with David Letterman and more.

In 2020, Nik launched the record label Chewing Inc.: a home to produce music and curate a visual label identity where all releases feel interconnected, including Omotola’s gorgeous genre-bending 2021 debut single, as well as The Gloomies’ “Talk” and the ‘Patricia EP’ by Jaws of Love.

‘Songs For Linnéa’ follows up Chewing’s 2019 debut album ‘Pacific Ocean Blue’: a dark, liberal cover of Dennis Wilson’s 1977 album in its entirety, featuring Cults, Nico Segal, POP ETC, and of course his entire band Local Natives contributing their signature west coast harmonies. ‘Pacific Ocean Blue’ was originally released exclusively on vinyl via Turntable Kitchen, while receiving a full digital release in 2020. The ambient instrumental ‘POB EP’ arrived in 2019, followed by remixes for Cold War Kids and Peel in 2020 and a series of double-sided singles in 2022.
