Los Pirañas is Bogota’s most powerful musical triumvirate, a power trio made up of guitarist Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers), drummer Pedro Ojeda (Romperayo) and bassist Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero, Ondatropica) –
The three musicians have known each other since high school and have done more to transform Colombian music than pretty much anyone from their generation – hopscotching from roots music to avant-experiments and disseminating their vision around the world.
As a project, Los Pirañas’ music may be closest to their shadowy psychedelic rock past, but as such, among all of the trio’s tropical experiments, it maybe the most indie-rock ready. If cumbia, champeta and tropicalia are still at the heart of the music, the context is very much that of a psychedelic guitar trio.
While the band performs in Europe somewhat regularly, they have never toured the US and this will be their first US tour
