An evening celebrating the master of horror, Lon Chaney Sr. “Phantom Burlesque” pre-show by Anastasia Elfman and live organ accompaniment by Cliff Retallick.

Known as “The Man of a Thousand Faces” Lon Chaney Sr. was in high demand as one of the biggest stars in silent Hollywood. His unrecognizable physical transformations and unique characters would captivate audiences. His acting range could provoke empathy for even the most grotesque figures. By the time Phantom was released in 1925, Lon was the master of disguise, a pioneer in the world of effects makeup and laid the foundations for horror as we know it!

Chaney was a trail-blazer who revolutionized early “pre-code” films (before 1933). He quite literally wrote the book on what could be achieved with physical makeup, early prosthetics and special effects. A constant chameleon with an incredible range of emotions, he was able to distort his face and twist his body. He often suffered in great pain during his performances as much as the iconic characters portrayed.

And all conveyed without a single word—Lon Chaney!
